2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hazel Green completed the 2015 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region four, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Hazel Green's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spain Park by a score of 31-7. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Trojans qualified for the playoffs. The Trojans have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016. Since 2010, Hazel Green has gone a combined 31-31. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hazel Green has not won much with a record of 87-167. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A and 322nd in the AHSAA. The Trojans are led by head coach Will Wagnon who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Hazel Green. The Trojans saw improvement from a 4-6 record the season before coach Wagnon arrived. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wagnon. Coach Wagnon's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 42-28 (60.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wagnon's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. The Hazel Green Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season. The Trojans may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 7A to 6A. They will compete in region eight this year. The Trojans will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. The Trojans open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Buckhorn on Friday, August 26 at Bob Grimwood Stadium.
